Nestling in the Schoemanskloof Valley, Old Joe's is ideally situated as a 'getaway' or 'stepping stone' to the splendours of Mpumalanga/Lowveld (less than 3 hours from Gauteng/Johannesburg International Airport and close to the game parks). Decorated in African Colonial style with vibrant colours. The homestead with its verandah overlooking the valley, offers a feeling of total tranquility. Mealtime is an event in itself - wholesome country breakfasts and romantic lamplit dinners are served in the dining room. Lunches can be taken outside in the picturesque gardens, or if you prefer you can have a romantic picnic at the river's edge. Garden fresh produce is used in the preparation of all meals, with home baked breads being a speciality. The atmosphere of the aptly named 'Candlewick Pub' is both warm and intimate and very conducive to making new friends, or sharing a quiet drink. The gardens are breathtaking and reflect all the splendours of the lowveld. Bird life abounds and for those who prefer simply to soak up the sun or read a while in some shady nook, there is a pool and various hideaways.
For the somewhat more energetic there are games of boulle, croquet, and a variety of walking trails - from a gentle stroll down to the banks of the Crocodile River to exhilirating hikes - following the river up the valley or climbing the mountain.
